| This is a rant, but I just wondered what other people thought about the subject.
I don't know if its just me, but have you noticed that there is a lack of manners and such in society nowadays?
I noticed it more as of late.
One example, is that I would go out of my way to go buy flowers for my friends for their birthdays at school. And if they had a party, I would give them a gift too. It became an expensive habit [$200+], but I figured it was a nice gesture.
It hurts, because many times I wouldn't even get a grateful, but simple thank you. What is that?
And then when it was my birthday, so many people didn't even know. I mean, isn't it just a common courtesy to at least remember birthdays? Especially of those people who actually cared enough to remember your special day? I found that quite disheartening.
And then, I had a birthday dinner. A very last minute one. As in like, calling people right after school. One thing that bugged me was that some people said that they could come, and didn't end up coming, and didn't call or anything. So we were waiting at the restaurant, and wasting our time waiting for people who wouldn't bother to come/let us know.
And then, this is just my personal preference, but I think that if you go to any type of outing that is for a celebration, and it's the host's treat, then it is just a nice gesture to bring a gift, a token of appreciation, etc. I try my hardest to make this a point, even if it is simple like a dinner invitation, or an invitation to go shopping with a friend and their family.
I don't know, I guess I'm just saying that I feel quite disappointed/used, because I would go all out for birthdays, and wouldn't even receive a thank you in return, let alone a gift to match? It's one thing to give and not receive, thats fine, we're not giving to receive, although that is how it goes in society and it just makes sense. It's another thing to give, not be thanked, have your special day not important enough for others to remember, and then when you treat them, they don't do/say crap?
